Wherever a Star Cutter facility is located, the company is committed to giving back to the community by creating opportunities for training and employment. The company understands that manufacturing is core to the local economies and is keen on attracting talented young people into the skilled trades through a number of initiatives.

Partnerships

Alpena Community College Center for Manufacturing Excellence

Alpena Community College’s Manufacturing Tool Technology program enables students to become familiar with machine tools and manufacturing processes, developing skills in the operation of computer-aided drafting software, and getting hands-on experience setting up, programming, and operating Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines and advanced inspection equipment. Computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) and statistical process control (SPC) are skills integrated within the curriculum.

Star Cutter provides monetary and equipment donations to the college. The donations help bring bring state-of-the art manufacturing equipment, such as grinding machines and optical comparators, to the center for hands-on training opportunities.

Michigan Works!

The Michigan Works! Association provides services and support to Michigan’s workforce development system. Through the Association, members can access timely, relevant professional development opportunities and ensure high-quality programs for all customers.

Star Cutter partners with Michigan Works! to obtain grants and funds that help employees receive additional training and education, helping employees become certified in everything from ISO 9001 Auditing to Blue Print Reading to Introduction to Collaborative Robotics.
